Widescreen, Letterbox, etc.

It’s all about square pegs and round - whoops, I mean rectangular holes. If you’ve got a friend or relative who still just doens’t get the whole widescreen / letterbox / pan-and-scan thing, despite you waving your hands and drawing pictures on napkins, here’s a great resource: Stop by VideoGrunt and have them watch episodes […]

Decisions, decisions, decisions

Ah, it’s not even Halloween yet and the run-up to Christmas has begun — with so many new games either just now available or coming very soon. That means it’s time for gamers to be looking at game videos, demos and reviews as well at getting together with their friends to decide what the […]

Learning Matters?

Every few weeks the local school system has a “Learning Matters” day.

We All Own Our Copyrights

This is getting ridiculous. I’ve heard it now from Leo and the others on This Week in Tech, Emory and Alex on This Week In Media, and now even the Buzz Out Loud crew. Spyware Cleanup

Mike McB’s Spyware Cleanup is a good series to read through, to learn just how messed up a Windows system can get and some of the tools to use when (not if) you’re in the same situation.
Mike, you’ve got more patience than I do. When I was shown the family PC in similar condition a […]

GooTube

Yesterday on TWIT:
Vista ship dates, Windows Genuine disadvantage, and why Google will never buy YouTube.

[emphasis mine]
Today’s press release, from google.com: Google buys YouTube. John C. Dvorak has a cow, Film at 11 (or earlier if you check the website, of course)
Purely by coincidence, as they were posting their press release, I was uploading my […]

Everything’s Connected, if You Look Far Enough

One of my favorite nonfiction authors, Steven Johnson, has an article in today’s New York times: The Long Zoom. He writes about Will Wright’s still-in-development game, Spore, and the way it can help people take a set back to look at the bigger picture and how their actions are connected into it.
Spore’s players […]
