14 Years, 1 Month, 25 Days

Wow. A month ago I didn’t think that this would be such an emotional day. Walking around the building this afternoon, saying goodbye to co-workers friends that I’ve known for so long - that was tough.

It’s Marching Time Again

It’s football season again here in the Atlanta area, which means Marching Bands are busy on Friday evenings.

Here’s the Milton drumline warming up in front of the school before tonight’s game.

Be Prepared

Hurricane season, and Commander Dave’s sharing a view of his Be Prepared box with us. We’re probably not as prepared; though we’ve got all the same sort of stuff around it’s not packed and ready to go. Heck, even my everyday carry-it-in-my-truck pack of ropes, first aid kit, maps, etc. has gotten used and not […]

Today’s The Day

If you have an Xbox 360 but aren’t yet signed up with Xbox LIVE, today’s the day (yes, Rob, this means you). Today’s the day to get your butt back home, plug that network cable in and get signed up. At least get signed up with a Silver membership.
Why today? Easy - to get […]

Speaking of Operating Systems…

Vista, Vista, Vista. The folks at Microsoft are working hard and it’ll be delivered soon, so people are starting to wonder what they’ll need. Byte.com’s Peter Hagopian provides some answers.

Comparing Operating Systems

OS X vs. Windows XP. Now there’s a debate that normally spirals quickly out of control.
“You get more viruses.”
“You don’t have any games.”
“You’re harder to use.”
“You cost more.”
“Your feet smell.”
“Your mother wears combat boots.”
Fortunately, this site doesn’t go that way, and is surprisingly fair and balanced. They did a good job of not going […]

Why Buy Last Decade’s Tech?

Over on Blather de la semaine, Geren’s writing about buying a new TV. He writes all about the various formats of HD, but then finally ends with this recommendation:
…look for sets that are SDTV with an ATSC tuner, and know that you’ll have a set that will continue to work for years to come.

Good God, […]

Turbo’s Comin’ Back

Add that to my ever growing list of “things-that-would-be-nice-to-learn-when-I-have -he-time-to-actually-learn-something-new.

You said it, Rob.

Microsoft Security Updates, But Not By Email

From: Microsoft Public Support
Subject: Latest Microsoft Security Patch
Microsoft Customer,
this is the latest version of security update, the “August 2006, Cumulative Patch” update which fixes all known security vulnerabilities…

Please don’t fall for this. Microsoft DOES NOT send software updates out via email, certainly not a broadcast email. Synamtec’s anti-virus software found that this email […]

About My Xbox 360’s Blog

I was trying to explain my Xbox 360’s weblog the other day to someone who insisted that “computer’s don’t think” and kept asking “so who’s really writing that?”
I told PirateT7 ‘Don’t make me hurt you!’ and the threat worked…

I finally came up with the right explanation: It’s a computerized version of MadLibs.

Old Soldier’s Day Parade

This weekend the City of Alpharetta and the American Legion Post 201 held the 54th Annual Old Soldiers Day Parade. The parade is just one way that our country’s war veterans are recognized for the service. It was a beautiful day and I got some really good pictures of people.

More pictures.

SharePoint

Last week Brendon Schwartz posted How to select Personal View or Shared View in SharePoint 2007, a tip for those of use who are participating in the beta. Brendon and fellow DevCow Dude Matt Ranlett, have done a bunch of good work promoting and teaching about SharePoint in the Atlanta area. Good job, guys.
I’ve been […]

Comparing Folders

Here’s a Mac OS X tip I came across the other day that you may find useful. On your Tiger Install DVD is a Developer Tools package, including a little utility called FileMerge. It’s normally used to compare two text files. You’d just drag two text files into the drop zones and it would show you […]

Life Goes On

News Flash: Big computer company manager tells employee not to worry, they have plenty of projects for him. Eight weeks later, employee’s told that his position in the organization has been deemed as no longer required. Film at eleven.
No worries, mate. But if your company is looking for a networking-software dude, conversant in XHTML, CSS, […]

On Electronic Detritus

A thought for the day:
We’re an information economy. They teach you that in school. What they don’t tell you is that it’s impossible to move, to live, to operate at any level without leaving traces, bits, seeming meaningless fragments of personal information. Fragments that can be retrieved, amplified…
- William Gibson’s Johnny Mnemonic

What are you leaving […]
